What's the difference between a director and a visionary?

A director / DRI is the accountable owner of a lane or Program gift — including budget and contracting decisions. A visionary owns a celebration vision and builds a crew around it — often along the journey to the weekend, not only day-of. Multiple visionaries can share a lane as co-equals until a director coordinates them.

Do directors have to do the physical work?

Accepted Answer

No. Directors decide budget and whether to hire contractors. Building sets, hang crew, stage production, and similar craft are often contracted. You own the outcome, not every task.

Is this a paid role?

Accepted Answer

Generally not — these are volunteer leadership roles. We are open to contractors when a role or gift is funded. Full transparency: if you want paid marketing or similar work, we will likely ask you to pair that with a fundraising strategy and execute it to fund the role (and any campaign spend).

Do I need festival experience?

Helpful, not required. LNY 2026 runbooks and co-chairs back you up.

Question 5

What if my gift isn't funded yet?

Accepted Answer

We operate as a network of owners. We put the word out when an experience is unfunded, but it is up to everyone to recruit help and spread the ask. We will create incentives so pitching in is worthwhile — gift registry blocks, sponsorship commission paths, and peer grapevine recruiting — not a single person carrying every fundraising ask.
